Benefits of
Quercetin
What are the benefits of Quercetin?
Quercetin is a naturally occurring chemical
that is very beneficial for human beings. Flavonoids are also
important for human health. Quercetin is rich in
Flavonoids.
Like vitamins, Flavonoids are not produced by
our body. Flavonoids must be supplied from other sources either
through the diet or nutritional supplements.
One of the famous benefits of Quercetin is the
treatment and prevention of allergic conditions, including
severe conditions of asthma, allergies and hayfever, eczema,
and hives. Quercetin is also used for the treatment of gout,
pancreatitis and prostatitis.
Other benefits of Quercetin are its natural
antioxidant role. It is also being studied for its
gastro-protective effects, and is thought to inhibit eye
disorders either alone or in combination with other therapies,
decreasing risk of cataract.
The combination of Quercetin with Bromelain is
probably best known for the treatment of asthma and hay
fever.
Quercetin is a primary antioxidant for the
treatment of asthma. Quercetin is believed to help restrain
mast cells from secreting toxins that cause allergy
symptoms.
Eczema: Quercetin may also inhibit histamine
release. This property of Quercetin makes it helpful for
eczema.
Hives: Another of the benefits of Quercetin is
how it inhibits synthesis and secretion of histamine and other
allergy initiating triggers, or substances, by mast cells and
basophils, it may be relatively helpful in treating hives, a
problem identified by increased serum IgE levels.
Pancreatitis: Lab experiments indicate that
Quercetin might be helpful in the prevention of
Pancreatitis.
Prostatitis: This is a painful health problem
in men. Prostatitis may be helped by the use of the
bioflavonoid quercetin. One of the benefits of Quercetin is its
record of improvement in some men with chronic pelvic pain
syndrome.
Canker Sores: There is speculation about the
use of Quercetin for the treatment of Canker Sores. Although
not verified yet, a similar drug named disodium cromoglycate
has been shown to be effective in the treatment of recurrent
canker sores.
Gout: Quercetin might be helpful in the
treatment of gout. Under Standardized conditions, Quercetin has
been experimentally shown to seize uric acid synthesis in a
manner similar to commercially available drugs. Quercetin can
also hamper the generation and release of some other
inflammatory compounds. Bromelain is also thought to be helpful
and combined supplements containing Bromelain with Quercetin
are popular.
Cataract: This is a common eye disorder that
worsens with growing age. A cataract is caused by damaging of
the eye lens due to oxidation reactions. This damage is caused
by an unbalanced redox (Reduction-Oxidation Reactions) system,
membrane damage, proteolysis (breakdown of proteins), protein
aggregation (massed into a dense cluster), and a loss of lens
transparency. Quercetin can play an important role in
protecting the lens from calcium and sodium entry, which can
cause lens opacity.
Side-effects/Drug InteractionsThere are no
known drug interactions. No long-term adverse effects from the
use of quercetin have been reported.
